Who are We

The idea behind the EuYmast Forum was conceived by the alumni association WACOMA. WACOMA, was formed in 2007 by graduates of the Joint Erasmus Mundus Master in Water and Coastal Management (JMWCM), who are now in early stages of their professional career. Erasmus Mundus is a European Commission funded programme that, among other actions, uses grants to bring together students from around the world. We have been trained to pursue a multi and interdisciplinary approach toward the management, planning and governance of the marine environment and water resources In addition; the multicultural environment in which this programme is developed generates a common European perspective to our respective national perspectives.

From the success of Erasmus Mundus in promoting international capacity building through education and networking, WACOMA wants to launch EuYmast. EuYmast (European Young Marine Scientists and Technologists Forum) intends to integrate young professionals from all over Europe and encourage a mutual working relationship with others from around the world.
Our seas and oceans are an important source of prosperity, but both human activities and climate change are exerting pressure in the marine environment.
Therefore, we endeavour to contribute to the better understanding of those issues that will have an impact on the future of our seas and oceans, independently on the professional stage we are in. This organization recognizes the challenges the marine environment has to face and the need for a coherent Maritime Policy of the European Union, and is keen to address the issue from a multilateral perspective. It is our intention to accommodate all disciplines and encourage a common understanding approach.

The EuYmast Forum will serve as a voice of the European Young Marine Scientist and Technologist community (EuYmast), with visibility in the policy making and consultation processes by presenting the perspectives and approaches of new generations. Its purpose is to give value to the opinions of those in the early stages of their careers, who would otherwise be excluded in the consultation processes due to lack of representation. The Forum will also try to identify the present and future needs of the marine and maritime professional markets, and contribute to the continuous development of a capable and competent workforce.
