| Marine Environmental Data Base (MUDAB) The Marine Environmental Data Base (MUDAB) is a joint project of the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) in Hamburg and of the Federal Environmental Agency (UBA) in Berlin. It is located at the German Oceanographic Data Centre in Hamburg and serves as the central German data base for marine data collected within the framework of international and national conventions for the protection of the North Sea and Baltic Sea. At present the data base covers about 5 500 cruises, with the data from some 250,000 stations - altogether more than 13 million records. The data covers physical variables such as temperature and salinity, O2, chemical variables like, e.g., nutrients and the organic, inorganic and radiochemical components of sea water, and physical and chemical variables in sediment. The data base scheme encompasses a large amount of meta-information at different levels, e.g. a Cruise Summary Report (CSR) for each cruise, information about measured variables and the methods used, quality assurance, and intercomparison exercises. Each of the measured data can be linked to meta-information, including information at other structural levels. At present, data bases for sediment, water and contaminants in organisms are in operation. The data base for sea water covers casts, time series as well as CTD/XBT profiles. |

| Icelandic Meteorological Office The Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO) was founded on January 1st 1920. In World War II various restrictions were imposed on the office's operations as weather information was classified as a military secret by the British and American armed forces occupying Iceland at the time. Radio broadcasts of weather news were banned altogether so weather services were limited to sending telegrams to postoffices throughout the country. After WWII these services returned to normal. Soon thereafter air traffic between Europe and North-America increased greatly. IMO supplied aviation weather services to transatlantic flights and based an aviation weather office at Keflavík international airport. |

| Latvian Hydrometeorological Agency (LHMA) The LHMA is Latvian's national civilian meteorological service. The national authority was established in 1920 under responsibility of the ministry of environmental protection and regional development of the republic of Latvia. The main office is located in Riga, local offices are situated in various locations in Latvia. The LHMA provides weather and climate information to among others, aviation, shipping, industry, agriculture, research organisations and the public. To meet its requirements, the LHMA operates a meteorological network that includes synoptic, aerological, radiation measurements and other observations. They serve as input into weather prediction models and form the basis for climatological data sets. The LHMA operates a ground station in Riga to receive data from the operational meteorological satellites, which are currently METEOSAT and NOAA. |

| Kristineberg Marine Research Station KMRS is the largest field station for marine research in Sweden. It is also one of the oldest marine research stations in the world, with a well established network and long traditions of housing visiting scientists. Today it is one of Europe’s most modern marine research laboratories with unique facilities for conducting experimental work and for keeping live organisms for prolonged periods. The station is located (map) on the shore front in a wind-protected bay within the Gullmarsfjord, which is a nature reserve, and with easy access to both coastal and off-shore marine habitats. These habitats include sand and mud flats, steep rocky cliffs and deep basin sediments. By European standards the water quality is excellent, with two distinct water-masses, a brackish surface one originating from the Baltic, and a deep oceanic one from the North Sea. | National Maritime Museum (NMM) The National Maritime Museum (NMM) was formally established by Act of Parliament in 1934 and opened to the public by King George VI on 27 April 1937. It includes the 17th-century Queen's House and, from the 1950s, the Royal Observatory, Greenwich.
