EUROFLEETS: Towards an Alliance of European Research Fleets EUROFLEETS aimed at bringing together the European research fleets to enhance their coordination and promote the cost effective use of their facilities. EurOcean was directly involved in three Work Packages (WP) of the EUROFLEETS project: NA2 - Virtual Research Fleet Platform, NA6 - Advanced Training and Education as partner and, NA7 - Dissemination and Exploitation as leader. MarineTT - Unlocking European Marine Research MarineTT was a timely European Commission Framework Programme 7 Support Action that aims to make a real contribution to improved access to EU marine research. To achieve this, MarineTT examined the Knowledge Transfer and Uptake of Results from European Marine Research Projects funded under EU FP6 & FP7. EurOcean was the Work Package (WP) leader of the Information Management (WP2) and the Project Promotion (WP6) components, and was also involved in all the other WPs of the project. The work under the responsibility of EurOcean was lead internally by the Office Coordinator Cristina Costa and the Science Officer Maica Garriga. |

SEAS-ERA - Towards Integrated Marine Research Strategy and Programmes SEAS-ERA was a project funded by the EU FP7 ERA-NET Scheme and aimed at embracing marine and maritime research in its entirety, overarching the previous initiatives which only targeted a given area or basin and, therefore, constituting a stable and durable structure for empowering and strengthening marine research all across Europe. EurOcean was a Third-Party of the SEAS-ERA consortium and was directly involved in Work Package 9 (WP9 - information and Dissemination), the work under responsibility of EurOcean's Office was lead internally by the Science Officer, Sandra Sá. |

CIRCLE-2 - Climate Impact Research & Response Coordination for a Larger Europe CIRCLE-2 was committed to fund research and share knowledge on climate adaptation and the promotion of long-term cooperation among national and regional climate change programmes. EurOcean was involved in the CIRCLE-2 project as subcontractor. EurOcean services involved the development of technical applications and dissemination materials and the support to the project’s communication management and IT issues. These services were developed under Task 1.3 (Integrated Communication Strategy and Management) of WP1 and was lead internally by the Science Officer Sofia Cordeiro. |

SFS - Sea for Society Sea for Society (SFS) is a European Project funded by DG Research & Innovation under the Theme Since in Society (SiS). The project engages stakeholders, citizens and young people in an open and participatory dialogue to share knowledge, forge partnerships, empower actors on societal issues related to marine science. In doing so, the project aims to develop and enrich the concept of the "Blue Society" and set in place on-going mechanisms for cooperation. As partner of the project, EurOcean is involved in all the seven Work Packages and is the leader of the WP6 - Communication. The work under the responsibility of EurOcean is being lead internally by the Science Officer Ruth Higgins. |

STAGES - Science and Technology Advancing Governance on Good Environmental Status STAGES was a FP7 Coordination and Support action funded by DG Research and Innovation, which was a response to a direct request of DG Environment to put an initiative in place to facilitate the implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), and specifically to assist Member States with marine territories to achieve Good Environmental Status (GES) by 2020. EurOcean leaded the Work Package 2 (WP2) on “Identify, Extract, Analyse and Synthesize the Knowledge”, which aimed to develop an inventory of MSFD-relevant EU and national research projects and results, which were be hosted on a dynamic searchable online portal (EurOcean Marine Knowledge Gate). The work under the responsibility of EurOcean was lead internally by Science Officer Maica Garriga. |

EUROFLEETS2 - New operational steps towards an alliance of European research fleets EUROFLEETS2 is positioned as the enhancement of EUROFLEETS1 with the principal aim to consolidate the construction of a pan-European distributed research fleet infrastructure with common strategic vision and coordinated access to European marine research vessels and equipment. EUROFLEETS2 will enhance integration through specific actions aimed at consolidating the organization, methodology and tools initiated during EUROFLEETS1 and through operational experimental tests towards more integrated, interoperable and cost effective European fleets for the benefit of academic, industrial and operational marine research. NetBiome-CSA - Strengthening European research cooperation for smart and sustainable management of tropical and subtropical biodiversity in outermost regions and overseas countries and territories NetBiome-CSA will extend and strengthen research partnerships and cooperation for smart and sustainable management of tropical and subtropical biodiversity in outermost regions (ORs) and overseas countries and territories (OCTs). This will be achieved through a participative process mobilising stakeholders, their knowledge and resources for initiatives such as policy and priority analysis, multi-stakeholder dialogues, exchange of good practices, training and issuing of recommendations. COFASP - Cooperation in Fisheries, Aquaculture and Seafood Processing Research and innovation are central elements in the Europe 2020 Strategy and it is recognised that bioeconomy is an important element of the Strategy. DG RTD has issued a European Strategy Innovating for sustainable growth: a bioeconomy for Europe paving the way to a more innovative, resource efficient and competitive society that reconciles food security with the sustainable use of renewable resources, while ensuring environmental protection. COFASP will directly address actions envisaged within fisheries, aquaculture and seafood: 1) to enhance scientific knowledge and innovation reinforcing advice on fisheries management supporting decision making and strengthening an ecosystem-based fisheries management as central principle of the revised Common Fisheries Policy; 2) to implement the EU Strategy for the Sustainable Development of Aquaculture through development of strategic guidelines and implementation of national strategic aquaculture plans; and 3) to promote consumption of safe, nutritious and healthy European seafood and ensure traceability of seafood from net and cage to plate. EUROMARINE - Integration of European marine research networks of excellence EuroMarine seeks to integrate three major European marine FP6 networks of excellence (EUR-OCEANS, MarBEF and Marine Genomics Europe) into one organization, “The EuroMarine Consortium” with a roadmap for joint programming, creating synergies between different scientific fields, towards a common research strategy and a shared vision for the oceans of tomorrow. EurOcean is a part of the Advisory Board of the EuroMarine Network of Excellence project. |
