- Sea-based transport represents 84% of the total volume and 58% of the value of goods traded by the Irish economy.
- The irish fishing fleet is of 1.800, the large majority are small vessels.
- In 2003 landing of fisheries represented almost 300.000 tonnes at a value of €253 million.
- Ireland has the 7th biggest aquaculture sector in terms of value - € 106 million in 2005.
